General Liability Insurance
General Liability can be thought of as the foundation of a company’s commercial insurance coverage. General Liability protects against a range of risks that a company may face, covering both defense costs and damages associated with a claim. A CGL (comprehensive general liability) policy is an essential first component when a company begins looking into commercial insurance.
One category of risks that CGL provides protection for would include bodily injury and property damage. Examples of this would include claims from a ‘slip and fall’ accident or damages you may be responsible for as a tenant in a rented space. Product and Completed Operations coverage is also associated with CGL policies. Product and Completed Operations protects against bodily injury and/or property damage stemming from the failure of your sold product or completed work that your company has done for a customer.
Another category of risks that CGL will protect against are personal injury and advertising risks. An example of this type of risk would include a claim stemming from advertising potentially deemed as libelous or infringing on another party’s intellectual property.
It is important to note that tailoring coverage to a company’s specific risks becomes crucial when discussing these issues. This is where BIBSMA comes in.
