Dental & Vision Insurance

Why a Company Needs Dental & Vision Insurance

These coverages will typically go together with medical insurance. Dental is more of a primary benefit than vision coverage, but for the price, vision is often included as part of a package.
As with medical coverage, dental coverage has its own set of issues and questions that need to be addressed. These questions would be similar to what would be asked when developing a program for medical coverage and the same logic and structure can be applied.

What does Dental & Vision cover?

Preventative services include standard annual or semi-annual checkups, x-rays and cleanings and are typically covered in full.

Basic services include fillings, root canals and periodontic (gums) treatments. These types of services tend to include coinsurance of 10% or 20% on most plans.

Major services include crowns, implants and bridges. These types of services tend to carry a coinsurance of 40% or 50% on most plans.

Most plans will carry an annual benefit maximum, most plans tend to fall between $1,000-$2,000 per member.

Vision insurance tends to cover an annual vision exam in full.

Lense coverage typically provides coverage for both contact lenses as well as for more standard prescription eyeglasses. Coverage can vary depending on the complexity of the lenses. The frequency with which you can get new lenses will depend on the plan but will tend to be every 12 or 24 months.

Frames coverage will provide for an allowance toward the purchase of eyeglass frames. This allowance tends to be in the range of $150 for standard plans though it can vary. As with lenses, the frequency with which coverage allows for frequency of new frames tends to be every 12 to 24 months.
